Procedure involved in converting the use of a vehicle e.g. from ‘ private to Taxi ‘ when the vehicle has already been licenced

The procedure is as follows:
The vehicle details are compared with the details entered in the “life card” for correctness. The card is then submitted to the Manager, Transport Department for endorsement. You will then have to pay for and get the appropriate number plate ‘relevant to the new category of the vehicle.

In the case of converting the vehicle category from private to Taxi, the owner pays the prescribed market entry fee and authorization fee and obtains a commercial number plate. The car must be painted with yellow as usual to distinguish it from a private car. 

Change of engine or colour

On the owner’s record card, there is provision for a change of color and of engine. This implies that there is the possibility for the engine of a vehicle to develop problems that cannot be remedied. In which case a new engine. This need to be reported to the manager, Transport department for the change of engine number to be made in the vehicle’s record card and database.
In the case of colour change of a vehicle, the change has to be reported to the Authority for the necessary alteration to be made in the record card and database. Fees are paid for these services.
It must be noted here that where the owner of a vehicle replaces the chassis of his vehicle or the owner replaces the frame of his motorcycle, it will be taken that another vehicle has been procured and has to be treated as another vehicle with completely new data.
