The Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), Mr. James Baggie Bio, has engaged the Deputy Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone in a strategic meeting aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the area of road safety. This engagement comes at a crucial time as the Executive Director continues to prioritize the transformation of road safety across the country.

During the meeting, held at the Chinese Embassy in Freetown, Mr. Bio called for sustained support from the Chinese Embassy, reflecting on the fruitful partnership that has spanned over 54 years. He briefed the Deputy Ambassador, who also serves as Minister Counsellor, on recent developments since his appointment in March this year. These include the deployment of a tow truck and personnel along the Masiaka–Mile 91 highway to enhance emergency response to road accidents, as well as a nationwide crackdown on illegal garages, particularly within Freetown.

The ED emphasized the need for a strategic partnership in key areas such as human resource development and logistical support, both of which are vital to reducing road-related incidents. He also highlighted the Authority’s intensified efforts to ensure only roadworthy vehicles are permitted on Sierra Leone’s roads, citing the reinforcement of mandatory MOT vehicle testing.

In response, Mr Zhang Dianbin, the Deputy Chinese Ambassador commended the Executive Director for his proactive leadership and acknowledged that road safety is a critical component of national economic growth. He expressed his willingness to explore avenues for collaboration, particularly in logistics and capacity building.

He further assured the SLRSA leadership that the Chinese Embassy would consider their requests and respond appropriately. As part of the proposed support, he mentioned the possibility of organizing “super classes” for Road Safety Corps, vehicle examiners, and media personnel to equip them with modern road safety knowledge and practices.

The ED was accompanied by his Deputy, Mr. Josie-Scott Manga, who also extended cordial greetings to the Chinese Ambassador.
