Executive members of the Motor Drivers Union led by their President on Monday 1st February 2021 paid a courtesy call on the Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority at his Kissy Road Office in Freetown. Receiving the delegation, the Executive Director, Mr. Ibrahim Sannoh said, he was pleased to receive the Executive members of the Drivers union to his office as the SLRSA exists because of Drivers. Mr. Sannoh said Drivers were key among the stakeholders of the SLRSA. He assured the Drivers union that his doors would always be open to them to discuss issues relating to their welfare. He said as an institution responsible to regulate the road transport sector, the SLRSA was ready to address challenges faced by Drivers and other stakeholders in the road transport sector.
The President of the Motor Drivers Union, Mr. Alpha Amadu Bah called for a cordial working relationship between the SLRSA and the Drivers Union. Mr. Bah appealed to the SLRSA Executive Director to put behind the pitfalls of the past and look forward to a fruitful working relationship. The Drivers Union President further appealed to the Executive Director to review the implementation regime of the passenger manifest to ensure that it is available nationwide. In his response, the Director of Safety and Enforcement, SLRSA, Mr. Augustine Kaitongi welcomed the initiative by the Drivers Union to visit the SLRSA and expressed the hope that such visits would continue in other to consolidate the relationship between the two organizations. He encouraged the Drivers Union to always bring up their concerns and challenges to the Authority for prompt action. Mr. Kaitongi advised the Drivers Union to collaborate with the SLRSA in the area of training for Drivers to address road carnage in the country. The Drivers union President was accompanied by his senior Executive members including, Kainamu Kumabeh Secretary General, Alusine Kumboh Koroma and others.
